Historic Ballenger House

Located in the Seneca Historic District, the Ballenger House is a reminder of a different time when southern hospitality reigned and life moved at a gentler pace. The house is surrounded by gardens, gracious oaks and dogwoods.
The Seneca Woman's Club owns and operates the Ballenger House as a meeting place for various local clubs and gives tours by appointment and free of charge. The facility is also available for rent for weddings and other special events. Call (864) 882-7162.
The Ballenger House is a designated site on the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor.

The Lunney House Museum

Several special events are held througout the year.
The Lunney House was built in 1909 and called "Shady Oaks" upon completion.
Today, The Lunney House is owned and operated by the City of Seneca and retains its original character, making it a fascinating glimpse into a time gone by.
The Lunney house is on the National Historical Register and the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor. |
The Oconee Heritage Center

The idea for the Heritage Center started in 1999 when a group of teachers took a number of students on a field trip to Atlanta and wondered why they had to go all the way to Atlanta to look at the area’s Heritage. That idea evolved into a non-profit organization that eventually leased the current building from the county and opened its doors in October 2004.
There are plans for more exhibits in the future. One idea currently in the planning stage is to establish a living history Farmstead Project populated with authentic buildings from the 1800’s where volunteers in period dress would portray life as it was in that day.
The Oconee Heritage Center is open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by special appointment. For more information call 864 638-2224.

Patriots Hall

Located in the Old Rock Building, Patriot's Hall is a Veteran's Museum dedicated to preserving and honoring the history of our veterans. There are approximately 8,000 veterans in Oconee County with one in three families having a veteran in the household.
 The Museum is open on Saturday from 10 - 3 or by appointment.

Seneca's Bell Gallery

The Bell Gallery "Once Upon A Time" is located in Seneca's City Hall and features historical photography, stained glass windows, city memorabilia and bronze sculptures depicting eras of childhood, offering a unique glimpse into Seneca's past.
The Gallery is featured on the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor Arts Trail and admission is free. |

Upstate Heritage Quilt Trail

The Upstate Heritage Quilt Trail started in 2009 with one quilt block mounted on the Oconee Heritage Center in Walhalla. The concept was enthusiastically embraced by the Upstate and now there are more than 30 quilt panels in Oconee, Anderson and Pickens County.
