Quality of Life
Oconee County sits in the rolling foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains with water abounding in numerous lakes, rivers, streams and waterfalls. With two of the largest lakes in the southeast—Lakes Hartwell and Keowee, and one of the deepest and cleanest lakes—Lake Jocassee, Oconee County is blessed to also have the Tugaloo River bordering Georgia and providing some of the most exciting white water rafting available in the Southeast.
There are 60-80 waterfalls in the county, depending on who you talk to and your definition of waterfall. Twenty are available to the public and worth the hike to view them. There are more than 40 hiking trails in and through the county and approximately a quarter of the county is in the Sumter National Forest providing all kinds of room for outdoor sports, adventure and just plain enjoying the views. The combination of land and water in so many different forms is truly unique to this area.
